Mugello holidays
Mugello, lying half way between Florence and Bologna and easily reached bu means of the A1 "Autosole" Motorway (Barberino del Mugello exit), of two State roads (SS 65 Bolognese and SS 302 Faentina) or of the old panoramic rail line linking Firenze in Tuscany to Faenza in Emilia-Romagna (still served on some occasions by historic steam trains) is the perfect location for an unforgettable holiday in the celebrated Tuscan countryside, just a few dozen minutes' drive from the best loved art towns and cities on both sides of the Apennines.

Mugello itself is full of artistic and historic heritage: country churches, roadside shrines, castles and villas, small museums and old water mills to name but a few. From Mugello came the Medici dinasty, whose castles (Cafaggiolo and Trebbio) still attest to their magnificence. Mugello also gave birth to such great artists as Giotto, Beato Angelico, Andrea del Castagno and, more recently, the poet Dino Campana and the art nouveau ceramists of the Chini family.

The local farming tradition, whose ancient origins are still firmly rooted and lovingly cherished in the area, provides a variety of quality agricoltural produce - let us just mention the world-class PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) Mugello chestnut for one - which throughout the year are celebrated with a rich programme of agricultural shows, food fairs and folk events. Meanwhile, shopaholics and fashion addicts will find a treasure cove in the newly launched Factory Outlet at Barberino di Mugello, offering the best brands at hugely discounted prices.

Lovers of active holidays on the other hand will be spoilt for choice among the several excursion trails awaiting discovery on foot, by bike or on horseback. But Mugello is more than just hiking, horse riding and bicycle touring: the Mugello International Racing Circuit attracts thousands of enthusiasts of two and four-wheeled racing competitions, while the Bilancino lake offers sandy beaches and water sports of all kinds including fishing, as well as hosting several shows, sports fairs and naturalistic events. Not to mention a choice of swimming pools and and tennis lawns, a gliding club and an airfield, archery facilities and an 18 hole golf green...
